On level terms with Winnin Image past five-eighths, Before He Cheats d rew clear up the backstretch while Exotic Destination (Buzzy Sholty) followed cover. After three-quarters passed in 1:27.4, Exotic Destination posed a strong threat to Before He Cheats, coming within a length midway through the far turn. The Dirk Simpson trainee dug back in through the stretch, holding clear at the line by two despite strong challenges from runner-up Exotic Destination and Caviar On The Menu (Eric Goodell), who finished third.
Safari Heat (1:56.3, Roger Plante Jr.) and Benn’s Thunder (1:57.3, Andy Miller) took the other two divisions of the Stacelita ($5.80) was a wire-to-wire winner in the second leg of the Independence Hall series for trotting mares, covering the mile in 1:56.4 over the sloppy going.
