Benns Sure Thing in Mighty M track record

Return Home
July 22, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After coming east  from the Midwest a few weeks ago it didn’t take Tyler Buter long to get his name in the Monticello Raceway record books.

On Wednesday July 21 Buter hustled Benns Sure Thing up in the final strides to collar Konchie and driver Bruce Aldrich, Jr. in a 1:57:3 clocking in the weekly $7,800 winners/over trot. The final race time resulted in a new track record for older trotting geldings. And coincidentally, the horse that held the  record prior to today was none other  than Konchie who established that mark on June 3, 2010 when  Aldrich  won with him in 1:57:4.

For Buter, whose talents are just beginning to be known by the local training colony, his victory with Benns Sure Thing was the trotters fourth win-in-a-row.

“I had no idea(that) we were headed for a track record,” Buter said after the race. “He (Benns Sure Thing)  has been good in every one of his four starts here and today I was even impressed by the old timer. He really seems to like this track”

Benns Sure Thing is a 9-year-old  altered son of Keystone Nordic whose lifetime best  is  a 1:54:4 effort taken last season over the mile track at Balmoral Park in Crete, Ill.  The trotter, who paid $6.20 to win, is trained by Amber Buter for owners Lynette Buter and James Marion of Manchester, Michigan.
