Ben Bono charged home on the far outside to win his $62,088 division of the $248,000 New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings in a track record time of 1:57 Thursday afternoon at Monticello Raceway.

The altered son of Pro Bono Best established a new track record for 2-year-old pacing geldings and erased the former mark of 1:58 set last Sept. 13 by Don’t Be Skeerd.

Driven by Stephane Bouchard, Ben Bono started from the rail and shadowed the leaders until the final turn at which point Bouchard angled him to the far outside and the pacer rallied to score a one-half length victory over Panedict Arnold, driven by Yannick Gingras.

Owned by Judith Blaun, Elba and John Sixt of Sardina, N.Y., and trained by Blaun, Ben Bono paid $6.00 for win.

Ben Bono was a $10,000 yearling out of the Tyler B mare Hat Stand, winner of $123,510.

Forensic Z Tam won the fastest NYSS split in 1:56.4. The Saratoga Raceway track record holder by Bettor’s Delight was driven by trainer Pat Lachance. MJGB Racing owns Forensic Z Tam.

Forensic Z Tam was a $50,000 yearling out of the $167,000-winner Lady Indigo, by Falcon Seelster.

The other two splits were won by Capital Advisor in 1:59.1 and Kenneth J in 1:57.3.
