Big horses, book signing, Dan Patch memorabilia set for Saturday

The Red Mile has a big day of racing planned for Saturday afternoon and while the headliners will be Deweycheatumnhowe, Somebeachsomewhere and Art Official, the day�s card will also include the undefeated Indiana champion Mya Tri (in race 1), new world champion Dennis, five divisions of 2-year-old pacing colts, and an appearance by author Charles Leerhsen, who will be signing his book �Crazy Good: The true story of Dan Patch, the most famous horse in America.� Post time for the card is 12:30 pm, with Leerhsen�s book signing taking place between noon and 2 pm.

There will also be a special display of Dan Patch memorabilia from collector Bob Glaspie of Oxford, Ind., Dan Patch's hometown.

As for the racing today, those waiting to see a rematch between North America Cup winner Somebeachsomewhere, and his conqueror, Meadowlands Pace winner Art Official, will have to wait as the two sophomore pacing heavyweights drew into separate $134,000 Bluegrass divisions Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile.

Somebeachsomewhere, who trained a mile at The Red Mile Wednesday morning in the range of 1:51-1:52, drew post three with driver Paul MacDonell in the second Bluegrass division, slated as the 14th and last race on the card. Trainer Brent MacGrath admitted to harnessracing.com after the training mile that the colt--who has not raced since coming up sick following his win in the Simcoe at Mohawk Sept. 6--is still not 100 percent, but he is hopeful for Saturday as he and the rest of the connections are shooting for a new world record.

As for Art Official, who finished third in the decisive second heat of the Little Brown Jug last Thursday, he drew post eight in the first Bluegrass division, slated as the 12th race. The Joe Seekman trainee delivered Somebeachsomewhere his first-ever defeat in the $1.1 million Meadowlands Pace in July, needed every bit of his world-record 1:47 effort to do so. Ron Pierce will once again get the call behind Art Official in the Bluegrass.

Hambletonian winner Deweycheatumnhowe drew post three in the last of three Bluegrass divisions for 3-year-old trotting colts Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile. The richest horse in harness racing this year with $1,788,955 in earnings, will have trainer and co-owner Ray Schnittker in the sulky.

Coming off a victory in the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic, Dewey avenged his lone career defeat the week prior in his elim to Crazed, who was not entered in the Bluegrass by trainer Frank Antonacci Jr.
