John Campbell drove a trio of fillies to victory in their Historic Series stakes on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands, achieving the hat trick before persistent lightning and heavy rains prompted the card to be canceled after the fourth race. Campbell's winners were Snow White (1:56) and Bether Always (1:57.3) in the Acorn for 2-year-old filly trotters, and Step Lively (1:54.4) in the Debutante for 2-year-old filly pacers.

Campbell guided Snow White to a 1:56 win in the first of two $45,450 Acorn divisions for freshman trotters, which were contested as non-wagering events prior to the start of the racing card. Snow White popped out of the pocket in the stretch and trotted home in an impressive:27.3 final quarter to best the pacesetter Epangeline by a length and a quarter. In the second Acorn division, Campbell steered Bether Always to a four and three-quarter length romp in 1:57.3 for trainer-owner Chuck Sylvester. The reinsman was back in the winner’s circle in the evening’s second race with Step Lively, who stepped out with a 1:54.4 mile in the first of two $38,000 Debutante divisions for freshman pacers. The filly was a bargain $9,000 yearling purchase by trainer-owner George Dennis, Tina Dennis and Ask W Stables, Toby Lynch Jr. picked up the win in the third race Debutante division with Thong, whom he drives, trains and co-owns with Jason Lynch. Thong paced the mile in 1:55.

The Acorn and Debutante are two of the nine Historic stakes events to be contested this week. The races, which were originally raced at the Goshen Historic Track in New York, moved to the Meadowlands in 1979. (Meadowlands press release).
