Three divisions of the Charles Singer Series for 3-year-old trotters were the feature events as harness racing returned to the Meadowlands Friday night. Scoring victories were the filly Soapy Sap in1:57.3, the colt Fielders Choice in 1:55.3 and the gelding Likeabatoutahell in 1:55.4.

In the first division George Brennan tipped Soapy Sap three wide in the final turn then chased down the leaders in the lane and scored her first victory of the season in 19 starts by two lengths over Red Dragon and Ron Pierce. Trainer Don Maiorano co-owns the Yankee Glide lass with Feore Orecchio.

In the second split Pierce popped Fielders Choice out of the two hole after passing the three-quarter pole, took the lead in mid-stretch and held off the late rally by Earlivic and Brennan. The victory was the third of the year in seven starts for the Garland Lobell colt. Kevin Thomas trains and co-owns the winner with River Ridge Farm.

In the third division Likeabatoutahell had to grind it out first-over from the half, but with a surge in the final strides of the race the gelded son of SJ’s Caviar overtook Instant Photo and Dave Miller for the victory. Brian Sears was in the bike for trainer Trond Smedshammer as Likeabatoutahell scored his third victory of the year in 14 starts for owner Michael Andrew.
