Big night for Finn

Return Home
February 02, 2006 | Print View

Meadowlands newcomer John Finn sent out three starters and came away with two victories on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands.

The Balmoral Park-based trainer sent out Buckmaker, who scored a 3 3/4-length victory in 1:54.4 in the second race with Ron Pierce in the sulky. Finn is the owner of Buckmaker.

He reached the winner's circle in the very next race with PA-High, driven by John Campbellto a 1:57.3 tally. PA-High races for Mary Lea Jeffers of Flat Rock, Ill.

The victories for the 48-year-old Finn, who is from Newton, Ill., were his first of 2006. His lifetime trainer credits include 439 victories and $2.1 million in purse earnings.

Also, Illinois horseman Homer Hochstetler picked up a training win with Kiss Of Life, who overcame post 10 to win by a neck with Brian Sears in the sulky. Another Illinois horseman, Andy Miller, was the one edged at the wire--he was aboard Harmony Oaks Quest.

Miller came back later in the night and picked up a win with Scotlynn Jag N for trainer Carl Porcelli Jr., a longtime Illinois horseman as well. Miller had eight drives on the night and hit the board twice.
