Big penalty in Ontario

January 26, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) has suspended horseman Pat Hudon for 10 years beginning Jan. 25 and also slapped him with a $100,000 fine for “acquisition, possession and use of drugs.”

According to an ORC statement, an investigation revealed that Hudon has used the prohibited substance Aranesp, a blood-building drug, in race horses.

Hudon, 35, had 1,493 lifetime wins as a driver for $9.7 million in purses. Last year one of the most prominent horses he trained was Four Starz Sisco. In a press release, the ORC stated that it has a rule prohibiting the possession and use of EPO and other blood doping versions such as Aranesp, the well known brand of darbepoetin alfa.
