Speed Of Shogun won last week’s Preferred Handicap Trot at Monticello, but still went off at 14-1 when he won Wednesday’s renewal of the $15,000 feature in 1:59.1.

Driven by James Meittinis, the 10-year-old gelding by Shogun Lobell made a sweeping three-wide move to win by three-quarters of a length over Platinum Boy (James De Vaux) and Iroquoindiangiver (Alan Schwartz).

The German-born gelding won 42 races there before being imported in late 2004. He has won eight here for a total of 50 wins and $208,683 in earnings.

He is owned by Jesmeral Stable and trained by Earl Cruise.
