Big prices in session 2

October 06, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

With the 135 yearlings sold generating gross sales of $8,444,000, the average price at the second session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale on Thursday night was $62,088, a huge leap from last year’s figure of $46,122 for a comparable number sold. The average price in this year's second session was up 34 percent from 2005.

Despite a light drizzle falling in Lexington, buyers were in attendance and ready to fire with the very first horse that walked through the ring. Hip number 127, an Andover Hall filly out of WAC, brought a bid of $140,000. A total of 18 yearlings brought prices of $100,000 or more in the second session.

The top price in the second session was for an Andover Hall filly out of Velvet Sauce, the dam of Hambletonian elimination winner Power To Charm. Herb Liverman bought the filly—which sold fourth from the end of the second session--with a bid of $250,000.

Earlier in the sale, Mats Anderson of Fresno, Calif., had the winning bid at $205,000 for a Tagliabue filly out of the prolific family of Amour Angus, the dam of Andover Hall, Angus Hall and Conway Hall. Peninsula Farm consigned the filly as agent for Jules and Arlene Siegel.
