Deweycheatumnhowe turned in a huge 1:53.1 qualifying effort at the Meadowlands Thursday morning, using a two-hole trip to beat The Pres by 3 1/4 lengths with a :27.1 last quarter. Trainer, driver and co-owner Ray Schnittker said afterward he was extremely pleased with the mile and that Dewey "was coasting" throughout.
"The race took nothing out of him. He was just really great," said Schnittker, adding that as scheduled Dewey's first pari-mutuel start of the year will be June 27 in the Historic at the Meadowlands.
Also in qualifying action was the world champion filly Snow White, who is continuing her comeback after throat surgery. Making her second qualifying appearance, she took control of her race before the half and won by 10 3/4 lengths in 1:55.3.
