South Florida is a spring training headquarters for many horsemen and Pompano Park had a few exhibitions in qualifying races Friday morning. Big efforts were turned in by the 6-year-old pacing mare Glowing Report (a 16 ¼-length score in 1:54.2), the 4-year-old pacing mare All Night Long (13 ½-length winner in 1:54.4), and the 3-year-old trotting colt Budget Gap (2:00.3).
Other notables who competed in qualifying races were Perfect Union, who scored in 1:56.2 with a :27.4 last panel. Driven by Richie Silverman, the 4-year-old son of The Panderosa is eligible to the Graduate Series at the Meadowlands.
Budget Gap is a 3-year-old Self Possessed colt out of the Worthy Bowl mare Principessa Susi, who has already produced Stormont Tuscany 6, 1:53.3 ($854,055). He turned in a solid effort in his first career start behind the gate in the qualifier. With trainer Rod Allen aboard, he won by one length in 2:00.3.
Other trotters of note include the 6-year-old Conway Hall mare Three Little Words, who trotted to a 11 ¾-length score in 1:57.2 with Wally Hennessey at the lines; Corleone Kosmos, who scored in 1:57.1; and Chucaro Ahijuna, who trotted to a third-place finish in his first start since winning on Aug. 26 at Tioga Downs.
