Big tune-up for Florida Boy

Return Home
February 23, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Florida Boy, a 4-year-old Florida-sired gelding who earned $126,392 racing for the father-son team of Jay and Brian Sears, tuned up for his first Meadowlands start with a big 1:53 qualifying effort at the Big M Thursday morning.

With Brian Sears in the bike, Florida Boy enjoyed a two-hole trip before sprinting home the last quarter in :26.1 for a 9 ¼-length victory.

Florida Boy is a son of the Florida sire Raging Glory, whose most successful offspring is the millionaire Red Bow Tie. The late Dana Irving bred both Red Bow Tie and Florida Boy.

Last year as a 3 year old Florida Boy won seven of nine starts and took a lifetime mark of 1:53.1f at Pompano Park.
