With the fourth leg of the Indiana Sire Stakes completed Saturday, June 26, trainer Bobby Brower left the track extremely satisfied. Even though he had Allthatgltrsisgold racing in the $100,000 consolation of the North America Cup, Brower was in attendance at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino. Brower trains several competitive horses for Jeff and Maria King, who own Victory Hill Farm Inc..
Electric Sparkle qualified for the $200,000 final of the Indiana Sire Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by earning the top spot in the seventh race. The 2008 foal of Electric Yankee rebounded from two third place finishes in the second and third legs after winning the first leg by 1 1/4 lengths.
Driver Lemoyne “Mooney” Svendsen pulled the Victory Hill Farm filly into the fourth spot from the gate where he kept her until the backstretch. It was Trace Tetrick to make a move first behind Miss Bogy, traveling from fifth to first by the half-mile marker.
However, Electric Sparkle was quick to follow suit as Miss Bogy only claimed the lead for a few moments before Brower’s filly pulled out front where she insisted on staying, winning the mile in 1:54. Lets Go BB, driven by Ricky Macomber, finished second while Miss Bogy was beat out by Fakeutu Bluegrass and Dan Shetler for third place.
“We are just going to keep her (Electric Sparkle) on the same training regiment as she has been on,” said Brower. “Hopefully, she stays healthy and fresh and she is ready to go.”
The win puts Electric Sparkle in a good position for the final, which will take place Hoosier Champions Night Saturday, July 10. She will not race next week as she prepares for the final for 3-year-old pacing fillies.
Brower also had a winner in the 11th race, an open trot dedicated to harness racing icon Stan Bergstein. Motor Inn, who was driven by Dan Shetler, went straight to the front from post position nine and didn’t look back as he avoided a late surge by Claudius Augustus and Svendsen to pick up the victory. NF Soaring trotted well late to finish third for Rick Farrington.
After coming up to the winner’s circle for “The Stan Bergstein,” Brower hurried back to the paddock to watch Allthatgltrsisgold go for $100,000 in the North American Cup consolation race. The runner-up of the Hoosier Cup, Allthatgltrsisgold won the race, pacing the mile in 1:49. "Great.” Said Brower, when asked to choose one word to describe the Cam's Card Shark colt.
Victory Hill Farm Inc. and Brower are very pleased with their racing success this year and will look to continue the good fortune as the duration of the harness season unfolds. (Hoosier Park)
