Bikini Bottom surprises

Bikini Bottom, a 3-year-old filly by Cam's Card Shark out of a daughter of $1.4 million winner Anniecrombie, pulled off a $60.60 upset in the Blossom Series Wednesday night at the Meadowlands.



Bikini Bottom started from post 10 and got away last in the field, but driver Jim Marshall III bided his time as She's Game and then the betting choice Future Destiny controlled the race. She's Game led the way before Future Destiny made a quick move to take command just before the two fillies paced into the second turn.



Future Destiny cruised by the three-quarter mile marker in 1:25.2 before the field bunched up in the stretch drive. Bikini Bottom was seventh at the stretch call, but only 2 ¾ lengths off the leader. With a :27.1 last quarter, she slipped by to win by 1 ½ lengths in 1:53.3. Armbro Devina finished second while Future Destiny held on for third.



Bikini Bottom is owned by Jeffrey Eckburg and Martin Scharf. Scharf, who campaigned the great Gallo Blue Chip, bought an interest in the horse from Eckburg in early March. Eckburg bred Bikini Bottom, whose dam is Red Cape p,3, 1:54.1, a daughter of Jate Lobell-Anniecrombie. Red Cape was bred by Castleton Farm and Bikini Bottom is her second foal.
