Bill Elliott suspended, fined

The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) has suspended Canadian trainer Bill Elliott for 60 days and fined him $1,500 for having an elevated TCO2 (blood-gas) test on the horse Fightertown Pilot on Aug. 31 at Mohawk Racetrack. The penalty was issued Thursday by the ORC.

Elliott’s positive test made news earlier in the week and even caused the delay of the draw for the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic eliminations because he was listed as the trainer of Trotting Classic eligible Here Comes Herbie. Elliott was not allowed to start Here Comes Herbie in the Canadian Trotting Classic or three pacers in the Nassagaweya this weekend at Mohawk Racetrack. The decision came after a hearing held Wednesday morning by the ORC after Elliott’s entries were refused by Woodbine Entertainment Group following the positive TCO2.
