The Memorial Day weekend will see many members of the C.K.G. Billings Amateur Driving Series on the road competing at three different racetracks north of the border in neighboring Canada.
On Saturday, May 24 the first race on the card at Kawartha Downs in Fraserville, Ont., will consist of nine Billings competitors and the following day another nine-horse Billings contest is on tap as race 2 at Flamboro Downs in Hamilton, Ont. Then on Memorial Day in the Sates, Monday, May 26, two Billings races are carded as the early double at Mohawk Racetrack in Campbellville, Ont.
This year the Billings Series has several Canadian entrants, many of whom will be participating over the three-day weekend. Among the Canadians who’ll be in the sulky over the weekend include: Joe “Bearcat” Stutzman; Howie “the Horse” Gelfand, “Fast Phillip” Trudeau, “Dynamite Dave” Drew, “Ronald MacDonald” Dean; and “Racin’ Jason” Sgrignuoli.
Among their American counterparts who’ll also be competing in Canada include: Todd” the Downeaster” Whitney, Tony “the Capo” Verruso, Steve “You’re Never Too” Oldford; Dale “the Big Boss” Zahn, Dave “Yes It’s True” Offenberg; and Dave” Linemaster” Ehrenberg.
All four races are wild card events where the drivers can earn points in both the Midwest and Eastern Regionals.
With just four legs of the seven month series now in the books the top five in points in the Eastern Region are: Steve “Cannonball” Markoff (15); Steve “You’re Never Too” Oldford (14) ; Terry “the Dairy Queen” Donnelly (11); David “Steady As” Yarock (10) and “Little Harry” Landy (10).
The top five in points in the Midwest Region include: Steve Oldford (28); “Lawbook Larry” Farley (18); Steve Markoff (15); “Buckboard Bob” Miller (13) and Terry Donnelly (13). (Billings)
