Billings showdown on tap

March 22, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The second East- West Amateur Driving Challenge will again take place at California's Cal Expo March 30 amd 31, and by all indications it figures to be a knock down-drag out affair.

The Billings Five-four hits and a miss—are ready for action and looking forward to their prey. Headlining the visiting East Coast team are: Peter “the President” Gerry; “Smokin’ Joe” Faraldo; “Congenial Gene” Miller; Todd “the Down Easter” Whitney and Michelle “the Belle” Ruvola. Driving for much younger and less experienced Team West will be: David “Sevens” Siegel; Jim “Kid” Foley, Benny “the Ball” Alvarez; James “the Closer” Guagliardo, and Alan “the Producer” Kirshenbaum.

Last year the home team prevailed by a score of 118-111 but this season the Billings Five are seeking revenge and are confident that not only will they will make a better showing this time around but they are already making plans to bring home the gold.

“We certainly appreciate the California Clubs efforts and their local horsemens organization cooperation with this great program but read my lips, we are not traveling all the way to California to lose.” said Peter Gerry, president of the Billings Series.” We have a formidable team and we are giving fair warning that we will have to be reckoned with.”

Undaunted by Gerry’s comments, “Sevens” Siegel, the president of the California Amateur Driving Club Driving Club fired back.

"Last year, we had five of the top 10 Billings drivers come out here,” Siegel related “They were 1-5 in the morning line to crush the much younger and less experienced left coasters. Our formula for upset was simple: mix in some pacers and a night of muddy driving and play the underdog role better than Don Adams. We eked out a narrow victory. Sarcasm aside, everyone had a wonderful time and we are looking forward to seeing five new victims, oops, I mean faces, this month." (CKG Billings)
