After visiting the winner’s circle just once in his first 12 career starts, Boardwalk tallied his fifth consecutive triumph on Thursday when taking the featured $5,500 non-winners pace at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway in 1:55.4. Driven from post two by Dan Cappello Jr., Boardwalk found an early spot along the pylons in third place as Pro Mattic (Brian Allen) showed the way through opening fractions of :27.2 and :56.4. As the field made its second journey down the backstretch, Boardwalk was angled to the outside to begin a first-over bid towards the front, grinding away at the lead held by Pro Mattic through a three-quarter split in 1:26.1. Pro Mattic retained his lead at the head of the lane, but was quickly overtaken by Boardwalk, who charged down the center of the track to seize control of the race in mid-stretch, coasting confidently under the wire to post a 1 1/4-length victory. Boardwalk returned $3.30, $3.20, and $2.10 for the victory. Kabrash (Kim Crawford) paid $5.50 and $3.60 when closing to finish second, while Premieronbroadway (Chris Long) brought in $3.10 for third. Owned and bred by Francis Morse of Schuylerville, N.Y., and trained by Linda Flynn, Boardwalk is a 4-year-old gelded son of The Firepan, out of the On the Road Again mare Billboards. (Saratoga)
