Bob, “Hollywood”, Heyden, the Meadowlands track statistician and co-host of the television show Racing From The Meadowlands Recap, is recovering from surgery. After a recent stress test resulted in doctors at Hackensack University Medical Center finding a large blockage on the left side of his heart, Heyden underwent coronary angioplasty and had a stent implanted. The entire procedure lasted about 40 minutes.
"The first 20 minutes are tolerable,” said Heyden, who was awake during the procedure. “Then imagine laying on the ground and a cement truck in toppling towards you.....then, after you've survived that for three or four minutes, imagine you're standing in the ocean with water up to your knees and a tsunami is five seconds away and 150 feet high. There's not much you can do to prevent it. You just grin and bear it."
After a minor setback, Heyden is on eight to 10 days bed rest and may miss the 25 anniversary of his first Meadowlands show on Feb. 6.
