Voting for Northfield’s Wall of Fame was the tightest ever, but the two human inductees are well deserving as Bob Sidley, a long-time horse owner and breeder, and driver-trainer Kelly O’Donnell, led the voting and will be enshrined on the Wall at the April 30 ceremony.
Sidley has been a driving force in Ohio harness racing for over forty years. The Painesville native served as the USTA’s treasurer for many years. Northfield’s Distinguished Owner of 1991, he has owned or bred over 1,000 Standardbreds, including such Northfield stars as Heyday, Sid’s Time, Prize Penny and Medoland Miracle. He was also involved in the syndication of Osborne’s Bret and remains a major force on the breeding front in the Buckeye State.
O’Donnell, who calls Sagamore Hills home, is the son of 1998 Distinguished Owner (and Ohio Hall of Famer) Bob O’Donnell. He began his career at Northfield in 1978 and continues to race locally, while also racing in major stakes across the country. O'Donnell broke and trained millionaire pacer and 2000 Battle of Lake Erie Champ Dragon Again, as well as 2005 Jug Champ P-Forty-Seven. He has over $1 million in training earnings in three of the last four years and also drove top Ohio-breds for his dad, including Impatiens and Strike Out Babe. (Northfield Park)
