Boinga popped out of the pocket and surged past the tired leader to win the $54,000 Windylane Hanover final on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.
Boinga took the early lead before yielding to Special Appeal before the half-mile marker in :56. She angled out past the three-quarter marker, easily past the favorite Special Appeal and held off the late-rallying Jettalady for a 2-length victory. Boinga trotted to a career best 1:55 and paid $4.60 to win.
"She seems to be better if you can kind of just one-run her," said winning driver David Miller. "I used her pretty hard to get out front and I just let her keep on truckin' up there and she did come up a little soft.
"I was surprised I got by her [Special Appeal] as easy as I did," he added. "I thought she'd give a little more of a fight."
Boinga completed a sweep of the Windylane Hanover after winning both preliminary legs of the series. Boinga has now won 4 of 15 career starts and $96,972. The 3-year-old Windsong's Legacy filly is owned by Anthony and Carol Risi and Bernard O'Brien. (Meadowlands)
