For the second consecutive week, Boots Place chalked up an impressive 1:52.2 win in the $30,000 Mares Open Handicap pace at Dover Downs on Tuesday, March 3. Eric Goodell ushered Boots Place quickly to the lead and never looked back registering a lifetime mark of 1:52.2. It was Goodell's second win on the card. Mike Hall trains the Park Place-Put The Boots 5-year-old for owner Bernard Segebade. The win was the third of the meet in seven starts this year for seasonal earnings of $52,540. Alice's Restaurant recorded her fourth second-place finish of the year. Ron Pierce drove the winner of the $21,000 Mares pace, one of four wins. He guided Shady Sabrina to her third win in her last four starts chalking up a 1:54 score. KDK Standardbreds and Golden Hour Stable own the Cam's Dignity-Mymymymysharona 8-year-old. Boca Hanover finished second. Pierce also steered Honorary Hanover to victory in 1:54.2 in an $18,500 4 and 5-Year-Old Mares pace. The 4-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-Holding Court was the second win for owner Baron Racing Stable and conditioner Josh Green and the mare's third success of the meet. In a $14,500 Mares pace, Jim Morand put Mike and Ann Tait's Tug River Aussie into high gear on the backstretch taking the lead just before the three-quarters and then pulled away for a 1:54.2 victory, her first of 2010. Itz Cherry Ripe N (George Dennis), the favorite, stalked the winner and finished second. Safari Heat and Roger Plante were tough on the front end as the Striking Sahbra-Sun Victory gelding notched a 1:57.4 triumph in the $14,500 feature trot. Tom and Gregg Morris own the winner of two of his last three starts. Bengali (Daryl Bier) closed strongly to finish second in front of Stunt Man Hall (Tony Morgan). Ron Pierce drove four winners, Eric Goodell and Jim Morand won two races apiece while owner Baron Racing Stable and trainer Josh Green combined for a double for each. (Dover Downs)
