United States Trotting Association District 8-A met Saturday afternoon at Yonkers Raceway, and according to the association, one outcome of the meeting is a possible disputed election for the two director seats.
More than 100 members from U.S. Trotting Association District 8-A gathered at Yonkers for that district’s annual meeting.
The agenda included debate and voting on USTA rule change proposals, a report on USTA activities, the election of a district chairman, and the announcements of the result of an election in which four individuals sought two seats on the USTA Board of Directors. The result, as announced by the election’s chairman, who was also named district chairman for 2009 at the meeting, Yonkers’ chief executive Bob Galterio, showed that driver Stephane Bouchard had received 222 votes, incumbent John Grasso had received 201 votes, Mike Kimelman had received 200 votes, and the other incumbent, Pat Quaglietta, had gotten 195 votes. Galterio also announced that the outcome was going to be challenged, and that there had been at least one question about a possibly miscast vote that might have a direct impact on the totals for Grasso and Kimelman. Quaglietta, who was first voted to the USTA Board 15 years ago, thanked those assembled for their support over the years, and he pledged he would continue to work to better the sport in District 8A, in any way possible. Bouchard, 42, has in recent years nearly dominated the driver standings at Yonkers. In 2003 he led all drivers in North America with 656 victories, and he has won nearly 7,000 races in his career, which began in 1989.(USTA)
