Bouchard seven-bagger

January 18, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The Wednesday night tally sheet from Yonkers Raceway's 10-race extravaganza saw Greg Grismore win a couple of races, Bonnie Rush close stoutly with her trotter, and Stephane Bouchard shamelessly hoard the remaining seven events.

The Raceway's leading driver won the evening's first five races, taking the popular $9.30 early daily double
with open-length favorites Quarter Carat ($4.30) and the trotter Jason Will ($4.70). Bouchard then won the third race with the down-the-road On Fantasy Island ($5.80), cruising home by three lengths as the second choice. It was a change of tactics--but the same result--in the fourth-race trot, as Passion For Life
rolled through the lane, winning by three lengths at a robust $9.50 mutuel.

The Bouchard Quintet in as many races was completed when Pacific Obsession ($3) came first-over, ducked in for a breather, then scooted home by two lengths. The winners of races four and five are both trained by Bill Kapinos.

Try as he might, Bouchard couldn't supercede the "you gotta be in it to win it" rule, sitting out the sixth-race trot. That one, along with the seventh-race pace, went to Grismore, who won with longshot Longpond Emily ($23.20) and Pan Grenade ($7.60), respectively. Bouchard wound up second in the seventh with 6-5 choice Theredealer.

He then added Races eight and 10 to his resume--with Swift Sport ($5.30 as the second choice) and odd-on
Glors Boys ($3.40)--bookending Ms. Rush's trotter, Fox Valley Majesty ($11.80), who won the ninth race going away. In that event, Bouchard had to settle for second (at 2-5) with The Glimmer Girl.

"It was one of those nights where everything went very well," Bouchard said. "There were a lot of good trips and easy wins. Hopefully, it can continue." (Yonkers)
