Stephane Bouchard equaled his own record of 11 wins in one day during the New York State Fair double header at Tioga Downs on Saturday, Aug. 5. The driver scored in five races on the afternoon card, which featured New York-bred Late Closers for 2-year-old pacers, then returned with six more wins on the evening card of State Fair events for 3-year-old trotters.

"This was a pretty good day," said Bouchard in the winner's circle. "I won 11 in one day at Freehold and Yonkers a couple years ago; that was really a special day."

When Yonkers Raceway was open, Bouchard was accustomed to spending the afternoon racing at Freehold and then driving up to race the evening card at Yonkers, so he said in the paddock between the cards that the long day posed no problems.

After his 11th victory of the day, he gave a thumbs up to the cheering crowd as he drove Open Trot winner Lavec Dream back to the paddock.

Only Hall of Fame driver Mike Lachance has earned more wins at a single track in one day—12 at Yonkers Raceway in 1987.

One of Bouchard's most exciting wins of the evening was behind Cold Winner to hold off the very tough Kid Conway through the last half of the mile.

"That horse on the outside was pretty tough, but I wanted to make (Cold Winner) trot the last eighth and he did it pretty good," explained Bouchard.

Cold Winner extended his current win streak to five and bumped his seasonal record to seven wins in 10 starts. The Credit Winner gelding is owned by W Springtime Racing Stable with trainer John Stark Jr.
