Monticello Raceway’s leading driver Stephane Bouchard put on an awesome display of driving talent when he reined seven winners on Tuesday's 13-race afternoon card. Bouchard began slowly and it wasn’t until the third race that he reined Stonebridge Ideal ($2.90) to a 1:58 victory for his first winner of the afternoon. He then won the fourth race with Eastover Court ($3.80) in 1:59.3 and the sixth with Magnum ($4.40) in 1:57.3.

Bouchard was quelled in the seventh but came back to win the eighth with Grandpas Rocket ($52) in 1:59 and the ninth with Fox Valley Assault ($3.50) in 1:57.3. His sixth victory came in the featured $15,000 Preferred Pace when he guided Mick Jag N ($7.50) to a 1:57 triumph and he capped the afternoon with a 1:56.4 victory behind B My Hero ($8) in the 12th.

“It was a good day, no...” Bouchard said in his still pronounced French Canadian accent. “Sometimes everything goes right. Today my horses all fit (their classes) good; I got good trips; and I got a little lucky, too. Now I’m off to Yonkers (Raceway) and hope to win five more tonight.”

The 39-year-old Montreal, Que. native who now calls Goshen, N.Y. home now has driven 376 winners here which is tops on the local leaderboard. His 547 seasonal victories currently ranks him fourth in races won in North America.

During the 2003 racing season Bouchard reined 636 winners which was tops in North America that year.

Though Bouchard had a tremendous day in the sulky his seven wins is still two short of the track record of nine set by Billy Parker, Jr. on Oct. 20, 1996. (Monticello)
