Bouncing bars at Woodbine

The quarter-pole move had been her forte through the preliminary legs of the Miss Vera Bars Pacing Series, so Mark MacDonald didn't fiddle with Bouncing Hanover's success in the $47,200(C) final Thursday evening at Woodbine.

Riding a four-race win streak, the Cam's Card Shark bay came first-up after the opening call, made the lead before the half and went on to notch her fifth straight score, this time in 1:57.4 over her fellow 3-year-old fillies, showing her rivals the broom in the process.

Trained by John Burns and piloted by two-time O'Brien Award winner MacDonald, Bouncing Hanover nailed down the half-length victory in after fending off a late bid by both Streetcarnamedsire (driven by Jody Jamieson) and Simply Mavelous (Rick Zeron).

Owned by Burns along with fellow Ontario residents Peter Leung and Peter Berry, Bouncing Hanover left alertly from the outside seven hole, but MacDonald elected to allow Streetcarnamedsire briefly hold the lead past the 29-second opening stanza.

Tipping out, motoring onward and clearing top the point with relative ease, Bouncing Hanover went on to lay down the middle fractions in :59 and 1:27.3 before coming home with a :30.1 final panel.

Streetcarnamedsire ended up getting a pocket ride in the Miss Vera Bars, and the Real Desire bay almost caught Bouncing Hanover, who posted the half-length win and topped a meager $11.70 exactor.

Simply Mavelous put in some decent work on this night, as the daughter of Western Maverick came first-over for three-quarters of the mile before finishing three-quarters of a length back of Bouncing Hanover, bottoming the $17.90 triactor.

The victory was the sixth of Bouncing Hanover's career, and the Hanover Shoe Farms-bred filly now has $76,390(C) on her card.

Out of the Beach Towel mare Bikini Hanover, Bouncing Hanover has now won five of her seven starts this year and has banked $58,600(C) in seasonal earnings.

Hazel May, the other part of Burns entry, finished fourth, while Tara Artiste collected the final check. (WEG)
