A fourth and final downstate look at the state's promo soph trotting lasses hit town Monday night, with Yonkers Raceway hosting the $214,200 New York Sire Stakes Credit Winner Trot. Thirty-three ladies went at it in five forays, with Brandnewgirlfriend continuing to hog the headlines. The leading lass cruised to her ninth consecutive (in-state) victory--four for four here--winning the $42,360 third division in an uneventful 1:58. With Boone Mattison again doing the honors, the 1-9 choice easily made the lead from post position two. After She's So Savvy (Howard Okusko Jr.) and Doin' the City (Jordan Stratton) both misbehaved early and Princess Robyn (Kyle DiBenedetto) was outrun, "Girlfriend" had to essentially beat two other foes.
Comfy fractions of :29.3, 1:00.1 and 1:29.4 gave way to a :28.1 kicker as the puny parimutuel finished her night's work, winning by 1 1/2 lengths. Gift Card (Howard Parker) moved first-up from third and grabbed second over TK Lindy (Stephane Bouchard).
For Brandnewgirlfriend, co-owned by trainer Paul Kelley, Jim Winske, Stephen Michaels and East Pond Stable, she returned $2.10 for her 11th win in a dozen seasonal starts ($166,873). She led a $6.70 exacta and $31.40 triple.
Michelle's Way (Brent Holland), who would probably assume the title should Brandnewgirlfriemd not be able to carry out her assigned duties, won her third race in a row in the $43,160 fourth event. The daughter of Conway Hall, trained by Ken Rucker for owner Marcos Ameralis, went first-over against Naughty Nana (Bouchard) down the backside, then held off the lass on her back, Winbak Portia (Pat Berry). "Michelle" won by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:59.1, with Anikawiesahalee (Jay Randall) third.
Michelle's Way, as the 2-5 favorite, returned $2.80 for her sixth win in 10 '09 tries ($120,714). The exacta paid $13.20, with the triple returning $76.50.
The evening's other NYSS groupings, worth $43,160, $42,360 and $43,160, were won by:
