Return Home
October 11, 2012 | Print View

With most divisional titles still in play after the Grand Circuit left Lexington's Red Mile, the spotlight turns north to Woodbine Racetrack and the US$6 million 12-race Breeders Crown series.

It's decision week for foreign invitees, supplementals and entries for the races slated for Saturday, Oct. 27, in Toronto, Canada. Invited foreign horses must declare by noon on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Supplemental declarations for the 3-year-old and open events are due and payable on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 by 12 noon in the racing secretary's office [905-854-7805] at Mohawk. A one-time supplemental payment makes a horse eligible to subsequent years' Breeders Crown events under the normal schedule of payments. All amounts below are listed in U.S. dollars and payable as such.

Open Trot ($600,000 guaranteed purse), $75,000 supplement; Open Pace ($500,000), $62,500; Mare Pace ($300,000), $37,500; Mare Trot ($250,000), $31,250; and 3-year-old events ($500,000), $62,500).

The starting fee is included in the supplemental amounts, and all supplemental money, minus the starting fee, may be added to the purse of the individual events.

Horses eligible to the Breeders Crown events must enter by 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, also at the Mohawk race office. Eliminations for all 2 year olds, if needed, will occur on Friday, Oct. 19. The 3-year-old and open eliminations, if needed, will be raced Saturday, Oct. 20, both nights starting at the regular post time of 7:30 p.m.

The connections of elimination winners may pick their post position for the finals.

Post time for the Breeders Crown finals on Saturday, Oct. 27, will be a special early post of 6:30 p.m. (EDT). The Breeders Crown finals will be broadcast live from 7 to 11 p.m. (EDT) in Canada on The Score and on MavTV in the U.S. They will also be the feature broadcast on Sirius (channel 93) XM Radio (channel 209) from 8 to 11 p.m. (EDT).
