Brennan, Sears win splits

Western Shore and Florida Boy each captured their respective $25,000 division of the opening leg of the Four Leaf Clover Series on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

In the first division, Western Shore rallied late in the stretch and nipped Real Mean Art at the wire to win by a neck in a personal best of 1:50. 2 3/4 lengths back to Thisbigdogwilfight in third.

Driven by George Brennan and trained by Ervin Miller, the 4-year-old son of Western Hanover posted his second victory of the year in his seventh start and increased his career earnings to $105,034 for the partnership of Brittany Farms of Versailles, Ky,, Ron Michelson of Chicago, Ill,, Ervin Miller Stable of Springfield, Ill., and Riverview Farms of North Bergen, N.J.

In the second division, Florida Boy and driver Brian Sears held off a late surge from Crawdad in the final strides to win by a half of a length in 1:50.3. Western Glory finished three quarters of a length back in third.

Florida Boy, a 5-year-old gelded son of Raging Glory, scored his third win in seven starts for trainer Mark Silva and owner Jay Sears of Deerfield Beach, Fla.

The Four Leaf Clover series continues next Saturday, March 17 and concludes with an estimated $100,000 final on March 24. (Meadowlands)
