Driver Brett Miller has been suspended for one year and fined $1,000 by the Ohio State Racing Commission after testing positive for morphine in a urine sample collected May 11 at Northfield Park. Miller, 33, has not driven a horse since June 18 at Northfield. The suspension is scheduled to run from July 5, 2007, through July 5, 2008.
Miller was voted the U.S. Harness Writers Association (USHWA) 2001 Rising Star of the Year award winner. He was also voted the 2004 Winner's Circle award winner by the Ohio Chapter of USHWA. Miller, who has won driving titles at Lebanon, Scioto Downs, Northfield Park and the Grand Circuit meet at the Delaware, Ohio, fair, has 4,364 career victories and $21.2 million in purse earnings.
Miller won a career high 639 races in 2004 to rank third in North America in that category. He has 255 wins and $998,379 in purse earnings in 2007.
