Harold Brocious, a feisty gentleman 74 years young, annually has a group of homebred colts race for him on the Pennsylvania fair circuit, and this past year the group did so well for him that he has been selected Pennsylvania Small Breeder of the Year.
Among his charges, whom he christens with the first name “RT” in honor of his Rocky Top Stables, were three of the horses who were on top of their group for point earnings in fair races: RT Gizmo, RT Coolart, and RT Dandy Lion. JC Mik Mac Jillio, who he bred and sold, was another top fair performer for breeder Brocious in 2007.
Brocious has bred some 145 horses with the distinctive “RT” lead moniker over the years, with great success, and it will be certainly no surprise to see his horses again grace the winner's circles along the fair trail in 2008 and beyond.
Mr. Brocious, his three fair champions, and other stars of the past season in Pennsylvania racing will be honored at the first annual “Celebration of Pennsylvania Harness Racing,” to be held Sunday, Feb. 10 at Harrah’s Chester near Philadelphia.
Tickets, which cost $25, and other information can be obtained from Sandy Tetkoskie of the Harrisburg Commission Office at (717) 783-6320. (PHRC)
