As a result of an accident in a qualifying race at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday morning, Jan. 13, Jimmy Marohn Jr. sustained a broken collarbone and will be out of action for about eight weeks. He was treated and released from a local hospital and according to his dad, Jimmy Sr., young Jimmy is resting well at his girlfriend’s home in Fort Lee, N.J.
Marohn’s 177 winners at Monticello last season ranked him seventh on the local leaderboard but the talented youngster copped the dash-win title at Tioga Downs last summer. In all, the 27-year-old driver reined 257 winners during the 2009 campaign and began this year with a career total of 1,146 driving victories.
Marohn was off to a good start at Monticello again this season and prior to the accident he already had reined seven winners over the first six programs.
“He’s shooting to return to action for the St. Paddy Pace (in mid-March) at Monticello,” his dad said. “He won the race last year and wants to be back to defend his title.” (Monticello)
