Broodmare Pizza Dolce sold

November 28, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Steve Stewart of Hunterton Farm said a casual conversation turned into a deal in which Hunterton and several other partners purchased Pizza Dolce 3, 1:52.4, a winner of such classics as the Kentucky Filly Futurity. The Conway Hall mare is in foal to Muscles Yankee, carrying her second offspring.

Hunterton will own one-third of Pizza Dolce, who is out of Peace A Pie, a daughter of Valley Victory. David McDuffee sold the mare in a two-horse package that also included the 2-year-old Armbro Everlasting, a daughter of Andover Hall and Breeders Crown champion Armbro Fern.

“It was a great opportunity to buy a great mare, one we never had reason to expect would come our way,” said Stewart. “Ernie Martinez casually asked Dave McDuffee if he would ever sell the mare, and when Dave said yes, he told him to put a price on her.”

While Stewart declined to reveal the price, he said the deal to buy the two mares was verbally agreed upon Wednesday, Nov. 8, the day before broodmares were sold at this year’s Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg. The trotting broodmare Windylane Hanover brought $600,000 at the sale on Thursday, Nov. 9.

Pizza Dolce already has a Kadabra yearling filly, who McDuffee has retained.
