The biggest news to come out of Long Island involving harness racing since the closing of Roosevelt Raceway might transpire in the coming weeks. The federal trial of David Brooks, who has been connected with the Standardbred racing and breeding ventures Perfect World Enterprises, Bulletproof Enterprises and Tactical Armor, is scheduled to get underway in Central Islip, NY, on Long Island next Tuesday, Jan. 26. The jury selection process for the trial is currently underway.

In other news involving the Brooks saga, on Tuesday a federal prosecutor asked that a judge order Brooks and several of his relatives to forfeit a $400-million bond that they had guaranteed in order for him to remain out on bail pending trial on 2007 charges of looting his company of $186 million. In addition, Brooks has made a motion to the court that he needs $10 million to pay his attorneys.

The judge said a determination on the bail bond will be announced Friday.
