Sean Bier guided Poweriscape to a four-length win in the $7,150 Horace Martin Memorial late-closing series final to wrap up a four-win night that clinched leading driver honors on Wednesday at Colonial Downs. Bier trailed Chris Page by two wins coming into the final night of the 34-day season but quickly pulled even with wins in race three aboard Hero’s Cavalcade and race five with Imawhiner. Page immediately regained the lead in race six with Royal Photo but was shut out the rest of the evening. Bier evened the score at 49 with a fast-closing win with Jolly Jate in race nine and scored the decisive 50th trip to the winner's circle with Poweriscape. Poweriscape’s Martin Memorial win was his sixth of the eight-week Colonial meet. Trainer Tony Zubkoff and owner Summer Zubkoff claimed the 7-year-old Personal Power gelding from the penultimate leg of the Martin and reaped three straight wins at the one-turn mile. Page finished second for the second straight year with 49 wins. The 2007 leader David Ingraham was third with 33 winners. Defending champion Manley Brown Jr. held on to take his second straight trainer title with 21 wins. Brown held a two-win lead going into Wednesday’s card and had to withstand a late charge from Don Harmon, who had three chances to tie after pulling to within one with Katkin’s win in race one. Harmon finished second with 20 wins. Roland Dunavant Jr. won race six with Royal Photo to finish third with 19 winners. (Colonial Downs)
