Bruschette picked a great time to win her first race since late June as the 4-year-old daughter of Andover Hall was rallied from far back at the top of the stretch to win the $85,500 Allerage for older mare trotters Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile. Ron Pierce, the leading driver during this year's two-week Grand Circuit stand in Lexington, was in the sulky as she closed fast to win in 1:53.1.
Finishing second was 2008 Breeders Crown champion Luc Ouellette, who is sitting at 7,998 career driving victories heading into the race. Third was Falls For You and driver Brian Sears, the winner of last year's Kentucky Filly Futurity. Bruschette was second last year in the second heat of the Filly Futurity behind Falls For You, who went on to win a third-heat race-off to take home the trophy.
As for Bruschette, her lone prior victory this year came in an overnight at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in late June. Trained by Jan Johnson, she is owned by Caroline Gerry, the wife of Hall of Famer Ebby Gerry. Overall, Bruschette has nine wins in 39 career starts, with earnings of more than $287,000.
