The fourth edition of the Miss Versatility Trotting Series is set to get underway this Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands. The Miss Versatility is for aged mare trotters, in which four legs are raced all on different size tracks. The first leg is at one mile oval of the Meadowlands, the second leg around the five-eighths track of Tioga Downs, third leg at Vernon Downs on the seven-eighths, with the $150,000 (est.) final on the half of the Delaware County Fair Grounds on Jug Day Thursday, Sept. 24.

Eleven mares have dropped in the box for the opening leg including trotting sensation Buck I St. Pat. Buck I St. Pat won last year’s opening leg at the Meadowlands in 1:53, finished second in the second leg at Tioga Downs, but was sidelined the rest of the year with an injury. She will look to pick up where she left off last year and keep her eye pointed towards being crowned Miss Versatility champion for 2009. Ron Burke trains the world champion 6-year old daughter of Jailhouse Jesse-Name It Something, who has won 33 of her 59 starts in her career with earnings of more than $1 million.

Two world records that still stand have been established in the Miss Versatility Series including Mystical Sunshine’s 1:53.2 world record for aged trotting mares on a half-mile track. Last year, Jimmy Marohn Jr. drove Godiva Hall to a world record performance for 4-year old trotting mares on a five-eighths mile track at Tioga Downs with a mile of 1:53.3.

Winner of the inaugural Miss Versatility Series was Lavec Dream and George Brennan in 2006, Mystical Sunshine and Daniel Dube in 2007, and last year’s champion was Susie’s Magic with driver Jody Jamieson.
