Long-time announcer and racing official Robin Burns has been hired by the Buffalo Trotting Association to take over the duties as race secretary and announcer for the upcoming meet that will begin in February.
Burns, who has called over 65,000 races in his career at such tracks as Hollywood Park, the Meadowlands, Laurel Park, Pimlico Race Course and Freestate Raceway, has also hosted horse racing shows on TVG-Television Games Network, Racing From The Meadowlands and Harness Hoofbeats.
In addition, Burns has also been involved in the race office at Del Mar Harness, Los Alamitos, and Capital Racing at Cal-Expo among others as a director of racing and race secretary and assistant. “I really look forward to my return to Western New York where I grew up and still have family," said Burns. "I began my career under the guidance of the late Gaston Valliquette and now have the opportunity to have it continue with Jim Mango, with whom I worked with for years in Maryland.”
Burns will also offer his expertise in simulcasting and make the morning line, two responsibilities that he has performed in the past.
Chief operating officer Jim Mango added the following: “Robin and I worked together at the Maryland Jockey and Freestate Raceway and I am excited to be working with him again. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Buffalo Raceway and I am sure the fans will enjoy his race calls tremendously”. Burns is scheduled to begin his new duties in mid January.
