Build A Fire is Special

Build A Fire ground out a 1:52 victory to win the $32,000 Delaware Special Monday night at Dover Downs. Ron Pierce drove three winners on the evening's card while Tony Morgan added to his first-place lead in the national driver standings with two victories.



Fred Hertrich's Build A Fire, with Brandon Givens driving, sat alongside pacesetter E Shopper and Jim Morand, from the backstretch until late in the lane before pulling off for his second win of the year to go along with four seconds and two thirds in 10 starts. The Western Hanover gelding conditioned by Les Givens was followed by E Shopper and Village Blitz in the day's feature race.



Ron Pierce picked up a driving triple during the evening, winning the fifth race with Next Flight in 1:52.4, the eighth with Standforsomething in 1:53.3 and the 12th with Diamond Jack in 1:53.4.



Tony Morgan increased his dash-winning total to 195, the best in North America to date, with a 1:53 victory behind Kyrios N in the second race and another 1:53 score with Zatta N in the sixth race.
