After a meeting of the O'Brien Awards Committee on Friday to make a decision on the eligibility of horses owned by Bulletproof Enterprises for the O'Brien Awards, it has been decided that the O'Brien for 3-year-old filly pacer--of which Not Enough and Yellow Diamond were the finalists--will not be awarded at the dinner on Saturday night. The decision comes after the Ontario Racing Commission announced it was suspending all entities involved with the ownership of Bulletproof Enterprises.
Bulletproof also owns 3-year-old colt pace finalist If I Can Dream, and the committee announced that Well Said, who received the most votes in the balloting, is declared the official winner and that colt's connections will be presented the O'Brien on Saturday night.
“After reviewing the suspension ruling from the ORC along with the O’Brien eligibility policy, the committee has determined that the O’Brien award for the 3-year-old pacing filly category will not be awarded on Saturday night," said Standardbred Canada chair Jackson Wittup in a press release. "In the 3-year-old pacing colt category, Well Said, who received the most votes in the balloting, is declared the official winner and his connections will be presented with the O’Brien trophy on Saturday night.
“The committee reviewed the eligibility of both Trainer of the Year finalists (Tracy Brainard and Casie Coleman) and determined that both candidates maintain their eligibility for the award.”
