Bullville Powerful will attempt to do the unthinkable and beat the unbeaten Somebeachsomewhere this Saturday in the $1.1 million Meadowlands Pace. The $100,000 supplemented colt was second to Sand Shooter in his elim last Saturday in 1:49.4, almost a full second off of Somebeachsomewhere’s lifetime mark of 1:48.3, which he set in his winning elim on the same card. He earned back $12,500 of his supplement fee in his elim, but must score in the top three in the final in order to turn a profit for his connections. “He had a very, very tough trip,” owner-trainer Stephen Crevani told harnessracing.com Wednesday morning of Bullville Powerful’s elim journey. He said that most horses that had a trip similar to his colt’s would have quit, but he just kept on going. It was yet another sign of Bullville Powerful’s perseverance. Crevani feels good about the Big Dance this weekend, but recognizes that he is “racing against a great, great horse (Somebeachsomewhere).” He knows that anything can happen in a race, and he said that driver Yannick Gingras is “a great driver and I have confidence in his ability to improvise.” Gingras is also aware of the luck involved in racing, saying “you have to be ready for anything and I will be ready for anything.” He said that the front is definitely Bullville Powerful’s best game, but that he didn’t always race him that way. Coming from the seventh post in the Pace, he will do his best to get to the front, otherwise getting stuck in eighth or ninth,” he told harnessracing.com Wednesday morning. Gingras added that in a big race like this, you can’t take back. Again noting that a driver must be ready for any scenario in a race, he jokes that taking back is his “plan F.” Crevani notes that “It’s all racing luck. We just gotta hope for a little racing luck (this weekend).”
