Bunkmeister, a 4-year-old son of The Panderosa with a mark of 1:50.4 taken last year, topped the Tattersalls Summer Mixed Sale at the Meadowlands on Sunday, bringing a final bid of $70,000 from Burke Racing.

Bunkmeister is a half brother to Badlands Nitro. He had been racing in conditioned events (nw $6,500 last 4) at Pocono Downs for trainer Steve LeBlanc. Thus far this year he has compiled a 14-1-5-2 slate. Last year he finished first or second in seven of 17 starts.

The gross for the 129 horses sold was $1,967,200, resulting in an average price of $15,249.

The second-highest priced horse sold was Anndrovette, a 3-year-old filly by Riverboat King. She was hammered down for $65,000 and sold to Joseph Davino. The filly is New York-eligible and has already won two New York Sire Stakes legs this season.

In a switch from past years, this year's Summer Mixed Sale was held sandwiched between the Hambletonian eliminations and final. Last year's sale held on the weekend of the Meadowlands Pace featured the sale of 123 horses for an average of $16,613. The top price at that sale was the $165,000 bid for Blue Boy, a pacing gelding.
