BV's Sister wins Christy Memorial Trot at Scioto

BV’s Sister came from behind to win the $15,000 Todd Christy Memorial Trot at Scioto Downs on Memorial Day. The 5-year-old mare scored for driver Chris Page in 1:55.4.

The race was named in honor of veteran Ohio horseman Todd Christy, who died late in 2008 at age 71. He was particularly fond of trotting mares and this race was restricted to mares.

BV’s Sister scored her second win in 13 starts this year for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. and owner Barnett Zimmerman LLC. She is nearing $300,000 in career earnings and went off as the even-money favorite.

Chust Chudy shot to the front with an opening quarter in :27.1. Charlie Norris then moved Pegasus Supreme to the front and slowed the tempo to a half-mile in :58. Page moved BV’s Sister first-up past the half with CJ’s Super Secret in pursuit.

BV’s Sister took control of the race in the stretch and then had to fend off a bid from She’s Not Red, driven by Chip Noble for trainer Scott Mogan. CJ’s Super Secret got up for third place.

The first division of the first leg of the Dream Of Glory series went to Rose Run Keepsake, trained by Tom Blankenship and driven by Russell Swartz. The talented sophomore filly made it two wins in three starts this year with an easy 1:57.3 win. She’s owned by Ronald Bates.

The second Dream Of Glory division went to Detective, a sophomore son of Pegasus Spur, in 1:58.4 for driver Chip Noble and trainer Scott Cox. The gelding overtook Master Can Sizzle in deep stretch with Forever Incredible third. Detective is owned by Karen Travis.

There were two divisions of the Falcon Almahurst with the first going to Sharp Feet, a 4 year old driven to victory by Sandy Beatty for trainer Robert Burns and owner Kenneth Briggs. The time was 1:57.1. Jack’s A Crusin was second and Zipsnapndrop was third.

The other Falcon Almahurst division went to Bonos Jackson, who sprinted to a big lead past the half and then held on to beat a fast-finishing Ideal Artist in 1:56.4. Ryan Malone drove, Wendell Malone trains, and the 4 year old is owned by Ryan, Wendell, and Patrick Malone. Swing To The Top was third. (Scioto Downs)
