Cactus Creek continues to churn out victories

Four years ago Cactus Creek won an elimination of the prestigious Little Brown Jug and then was second to Mr Feelgood in the finale. That same year he won the Adios final at The Meadows in 1:50.1. But since then the veteran pacer continues to chug along and continues to be a value commodity.

Earlier this year the 7-year-old Artsplace gelding lowered his lifetime record to 1:50 at Tioga Downs  and since returning to the Mighty M on June 29 Cactus Creek has now strung together two consecutive triumphs against the best pacers on the grounds.

With Mike Forte at the controls Cactus Creek made it two in a row on Tuesday afternoon when he wired the winners-over field with a 1:59.4 triumph in a pouring rainstorm.

Despite having to start from the eight hole and getting roughed up to a :28.4 first quarter, Cactus Creek made the top and from there it was catch me if you can… nd nobody could as the veteran pacer rambled to a two-length victory as the rain poured down.

Bruce Aldrich Jr. with Alexanderthegreat N, moved from fifth at the half to challenge the leader and the two raced side by side up the backstretch and toward the three-quarter pole before Cactus Creek  began to pull away and chug home an easy winner over Aldrich’s charge. Boule Hanover took home the show dough for Greg Merton.

When Reggie Dugay purchased Cactus Creek a few years ago he made a mighty good purchase. Since then, under the tutelege of trainer Jamie Gerard, the pacer not only earned a new lifetime record but has won nearly $100,000 for Dugay.

Coming into the race off a 1:55.4 triumph the previous week, Cactus Creek paid $4.90 to win. (Monticello)
