Campbell flown to Jersey

John Campbell, the leading money-winning driver in the history of harness racing, hospitalized since Saturday, Oct. 21, with a shattered tibia suffered in a racing accident at Woodbine, has been flown home to New Jersey by air ambulance service.

Campbell was discharged from Etobicoke General Hospital in Toronto this afternoon and will be flown to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. He is expected to be admitted to Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood and be under the care of Dr. Ira Esformas, the orthopedic surgeon who reconstructed Campbell's elbow, which was broken in a racing accident in 2003.

Campbell, the leading trophy and money-winning driver in Breeders Crown history will miss competing in the 2- and 3-year-old events for the first time in 23 years. He was named in each of the eight finals, with three favorites in Artzina, Pampered Princess and Glidemaster. (BC)
