Campbell has surgery

News filtering around the Harrisburg yearling auction on Sunday afternoon included an update on the condition of Hall of Fame driver John Campbell, and confirmation that Cammie Haughton will not be the presiding judge at the Meadowlands when the track opens it harness meet on Nov. 17.

Horseman Jim Campbell was looking at yearlings at the Harrisburg auction on Sunday afternoon and reported that his brother, John, is recovering after undergoing surgery last Thursday to repair his fractured left leg. Campbell's injury came in an elimination for the Breeders Crown on Oct. 21 at Woodbine.

As for the PJ position at the Big M, Haughton worked qualifiers at Yonkers Raceway last week and is expected in the stand when the New York track reopens for racing. There has been no announcement about Haughton's replacement at the Meadowlands.
