Up Front Bethann edged past Edra Hanover in the final strides to win the fastest of two $31,954 Standardbred Stakes for 2-year-old filly pacers at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds Thursday afternoon. Driven by John Campbell, Up Front Bethann parlayed a second-over trip into the 1:54.4 victory. Intrinsic Value finished third.
A daughter of Dragon Again, the winner is named for driver Dave Palone's wife, Bethann. A daughter of Dragon Again, she is owned by Ed Mullinax and trained by Kelly O'Donnell. The win was her fifth of the year in 10 starts this year.
"She's always had a big motor, and gives 110 percent every time she races," said O'Donnell in the winner's circle. "She's an all-around nice filly. This filly is staked both weeks in Lexington and the Matron and Breeders Crown."
Campbell also won the first Standardbred split with Wondrous Grace, who notched her first career victory in eight attempts. Overcoming post eight, Wondrous Grace crossed the finish line in 1:55 at odds of 14-1. Im A Native Two was second with Riven Hanover third.
