John Campbell drove the winners of both $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Championships for 2-year-old fillies on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands, coming from off the pace to win with the trotter I Wanted Wings (1:59.1) and Twist N Clout (1:54.1), who both started from post 10.

I Wanted Wings, a daughter of Muscles Yankee-Veronica Lake, held off Be My Baby by a head to post her second career win.  Margarita Momma was a neck behind in third.  I Wanted Wings paid $11.60 to win the night’s fifth race.

Ross Croghan trains I Wanted Wings for Eric Cherry’s Let It Ride Stables and Robert Cooper Stables Inc.

“I expected her to race well but with the 10 hole there’s a lot of variables that you can’t factor in,” Campbell.  “There were a couple [of breaking horses] inside of me around the first turn, but I was able to stay clear of them and she’s very professional for just having two starts.  I lost my cover a little earlier than I would have liked but she was game right o the wire.  They were coming at her, no question, but she was there when I called on her.”

In the championship for pacing fillies, Campbell and Twist N Clout closed from fifth at the top of the stretch to best Red High Heels by a head. Fancy Pants Sandy was a half-length behind in third. Twist N Clout returned $3.20 as the favorite in race seven.

Trained by Joe Holloway, Twist N Clout is perfect in three career starts. The daughter of Western Ideal-Economic Clout won the Historic Debutante Stake in her pari-mutuel debut on June 25 at the Meadowlands. Val D’Or Farms owns the talented lass. (Meadowlands)
